I just got notification that SF Friends will not be able to play our Girls Varsity Today. The Game will be rescheduled. As soon as we know we will let you know when and where?

I will also be updating the new schedule. Dan our AD has been doing a tremendous job of rescheduling games so that all of the teams have a chance at making the playoffs by completing a full schedule. Some of these games need to be make up because they will have a significant factor on teams will qualify for the playoffs. Check this blog for updates and we will keep you posted.

Girls Basketball Practice Today!

Girls Practice today at Upper Noe Playground on Day Street. Practice is from 3:30 to 4:30. This will be the place for practice every monday. We currently have our season schedule but we are in the process of making some adjustments. Originally we were to have games played primarily on tuesday and thursday at Upper Noe. We were recently informed that they will be using the gym now for their own city wide league and will be using the gym for all the games. We made our original schedule based on information we received from them prior to the Annual coaches meeting, that the gym was free for usage. We are now looking at revising the schedule based on the new circumstances. As soon as we finalize everything we will get the new schedule out to you as soon as possible.

IT'S TIME AGAIN FOR SYNERGY BASKETBALL

There will be practice today at St. Mary's playground. Practice will be from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. today. We are still awaiting approval of our permit request to have games and practices at Upper Noe. Once we receive confirmation we will be sending home a schedule of practices and games. It will also appear in the Wed. Word.

We also would appreciate any assistance with getting the team to games and practices.

I have posted 3 new photos of former Synergy Students who are now playing sports on the collegiate level. Alex is a two sport sophomore at Bard College. He has lettered in both Soccer as a midfielder and Volleyball as a true freshman setter and defensive specialist. Adonis is a true sophomore running back who played as a true freshman and now is playing his sophomore year at Northwestern University. Jeffery Dillon Jr. is a redshirt freshman defensive back at Linfield College. All three are from the Synergy graduating class of 2006. If you know of anyone else who is playing collegiately. Put it in the comment section of my blog so that I can recognize them as well.

Welcome to another year of Middle School P.E.. This year we will be doing some new and exciting things to get and keep your child in good physical condition. I will be posting a weekly activity schedule for you to review along with video links to give you a visual perspective of some of the things we will be doing. This will enable you to get a head start on some of the drills exercises and activities I have planned for you this year. The first month will be used for assessments and evaluation. The Synergy Boys also played SF School in the Championship game at the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center on Friday night. The boys played a great defensive game for most of the night and came away with a hard fought 36-27 victory in front of a packed house. The boys broke open a close game at the half. The boys used a strong pressure defense that caused several turnovers and led to the margin of victory. This was the second Boys Championship in the last 3 years for the Boys and the future looks bright for years to come. The boys went wire to wire and completed the second undefeated season in 3 years. What makes this feat special is that they did it with more teams in the league and for the first time 2 different divisions.

Great job Guys and thanks for a great year!

The Synergy Girls came up short of winning the Girls Varsity Championship on Friday night at Ella Hill Hutch Community Center. The girls trailed by only 4 points at the half with a score of 9-5. After both teams played even for most of the game going through the 4th quarter. SF School jumped out to a 11 point lead late in the game only to see the girls fight back with 5 unanswered points to cut the game to 20-14 with about 2 minutes left in the game. The comeback had the large crowd in attendance roaring and on their feet. Sf School pulled away late for a 10 point victory. The girls in defeat played like champions and should be very proud of their accomplishments this season. (undefeated regular season and #1 seed in the playoffs.)

Thank you for a great season and laying the foundation for future Synergy Girls basketball teams.

In two exciting games tonight, both the Girls and Boys Varsity teams won their playoff games and advanced to this years Finals.
The girls played a very game Girls team from Presidio Hill School. Synergy jumped out to a 10-0 lead and withstood an outstanding gritting performance from PHS. There were several lead changes that had the large crowd in attendance on their feet throughout the game. The girls from Synergy put on a late spurt and held on for a win going away 33-27.

The boys also played another close an exciting game. The boys from SF Friends were very much deserving of a place in this Semi Final round. The game went back and forth from the very beginning. Synergy held a 16-14 halftime lead in a game that was not decided until the last 2 minutes of the game. When it looked as though Synergy would take control of the game and win going away, SF Friends had something else to say about that. They continued to fight back with clutch shooting and timely defense to stay in the game. The Synergy Boys showed why they were seeded #1 late in the game and stepped up their defense and offense to close the game out with a 33-26 victory.

The teams in both games need to be commended for representing their schools very well. It was truly a night to remember.

The Finals will be tomorrow night at the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center. It is located on the corner of McAllister and Webster.
The Girls play at 6:00 p.m. and the Boys play right after at 7:15 p.m. It should be a great night. If you can, please come out and support both teams. It means a lot.

I went to the game tonight between KIPP and SF Friends. SF Friends won the game. The game was close for the first 2 quarters and was never in doubt after that. The boys will play SF Friends tomorrow night in the Semi Finals at SF Friends at 5:00 following the Girls Varsity game.d The winner of this game will play on Friday at 5:00 for the Championship vs an opponent to be named later.

I went to the game to scout the girls opponent for Thursday. It looks like it's going to be Presidio Hill School. I left in the 4th qtr. with 1:39 seconds left and Presidio Hill was leading 22-14. They broke open an even game that was tied at 14-14 late in the 4th Qtr.. Unless a miracle happened it will be PHS on Thursday at 4:00 at SF Friends School. I'll be going to SF Friends on Wednesday to watch the boys opponent in the game between SF Friends and KIPP.

The Boys and Girls Varsity Teams made this years playoffs. The Boys received the #1 Seed and will receive a first round bye on Monday. They will compete on Thursday in the Semifinal.

The Girls Varsity also completed a Great Season and received the #1 Seed as well. They will also receive a first round bye on Monday and play on Thursday February 10th. Both Teams finished the regular season undefeated. If both teams are successful they will play Friday at Ella Hill Hutch Community Center. Times to be determined.

Girls Varsity Practice at 3:300 at Upper Noe Gymnasium and 4:15-5:00 for Boys Practice at Upper Noe today 2/4 if you can make it. Boys Practice Saturday 2/5 at 9:00 until 10:15 at St. Mary's outside.

Unfortunately both the Girls and Boys JV teams did not make the playoffs. Both teams played very well towards the end of the season but just came up short of qualifying. We are proud of the progress both teams made and are looking forward to their very bright future.
There will not be practice for these teams this week.

We will not know which teams are in the playoffs until some time friday evening after the coaches meeting on 2/4. At that time we will have times and dates for the first round. Also we are trying to reschedule games for this Friday for some of the teams. On monday today 1/31 there will not be a practice due to the games we have at St. Mary's beginning at 3:30. Also there will not be practice on Thursday Feb. 3 due to games at SF School beginning at 4:00.

While both the Girls Varsity remained undefeated on the court with wins over SF Friends and Creative Arts Charter School respectfully.

Welcome to another year of Synergy Physical Education. I would like to apologize to you for not having the blog up earlier, but I was having some technical difficulties that I have now resolved. When we return to school after winter break, we will be entering our 3rd grading period. We will be focusing on movement activities to increase the students agility and speed and range of motion. I will be posting more information about the actual activities in the upcoming weeks. I look forward to working with you and your child in an effort to increase their overall physical development. Thursdays will consist of team sports or games in an effort to see how each student participates and competes in group oriented activities. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by leaving a message at school or on the blog. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

May Schedule: Final Tests!!

Finals will take place from Tuesday to Thursday. Because of the Field Trip and the 8th grade play and other reasons, it may be necessary for part of the test be taken on Friday for some. I haven' decided yet. The test will be on the Agility Ladder Drills (3) 3 cone drill and rope climbing.

Do plenty of isometrics and push ups to get ready over the weekend! Good Luck!!

Please be on time. If you come late you may not be able to finish all of your tests.

tips: If you live on a street that has squares on the sidewalk or near a parking lot that is not heavily used. (school on weekend with marked lanes, you can practice the ladder drils.

Feb. 12th Playoff Results: JV Girls and JV Boys both loose

Yesterday our Boys and Girls JV Teams both lost to SF School. Both games were very competitive with the Boys losing the lead in the final minutes. The Girls game also was very close well into the 4th quarter before losing. We are proud of both teams as they fought hard and never gave up. Both teams are very young and the future is very bright for them. Fantastic Season!!

Feb. 11th Girls Playoff Results 20-17 loss

On Tuesday the Girls Varsity Team lost a heartbreaking decision to SF School. Although we lost the girls played great, especially down the stretch. They score was close at halftime 11-8. SF School expanded the lead to 18-10 going into the 4th Quarter and maintained that margin for most of the 4th quarter. Our girls put on a dramatic comeback and outscored SF School by a margin of 7-2 and cut the lead to 20-17. After playing great defense they had an opportunity to send the game into overtime. Yesterday the Boys Varsity defeated SF Christian by the score of 37-12. The game was close for about one quarter before the team pulled away with a deciding victory. They will go on to face the winner of the SF School vs Creative Arts matchup on Thursday in the Finals at Bay View YMCA at 5:00 p.m.

We will find out the status of all the teams in regards to the playoffs next week by 1:00 on Friday February 6th. Our Athletic Director Dan Matarozzi will be attending the Athletic Directors Meeting this morning and will contact us of the results following the meeting. On Thursday Synergy concluded it's basketball regular season. The Synergy Junior Varsity Girls concluded there season with an 18-0 victory over Creative Arts. The girls played a great team game and have really matured since the beginning of the season. They finished the season at 4-3. In the second game of the evening, the Girls Varsity Defeated Creative Arts 23-15. They finished the season 5-3.(6-3 if KIIP games count). The score was close for the majority of the game but the girls dug deep and pulled away at the end. In the night cap the Boys Varsity won a hard fought 23.13 victory over Creative Arts. This was also a game that was close for most of the night. The boys came up with some key plays at the end to hold on for the victory. If the games against KIPP do not count they finished the regular season with an undefeated record of 8-0. Earlier in the week the boys Junior Varsity finished their season at 7-2. They capped their season off with a hard fought win against CDS with a final of 31-25. All of the boys contributed and this was truly a team victory.

December 17th Game Results

The Girls Junior Varsity lost their second thrilling lost of the season, losing in the last seconds to Burke School by a score of 14-13. After trailing early the girls lead for most of the game only to lose for the second game in a row on a basket with seconds remaining in the game. We again had an opportunity to win the game but came up short. We are very proud and encouraged by the entire teams play.

December 15th Game Results

On Monday both Varsity Teams were in action. The Girls won the Opening game vs KIPP by a score of 19-4. They extended their overall record to 2-0 in league play. The second game was a thriller with the boys losing in overtime by a score of 26-24. KIPP was leading with just seconds to go in the game when we were fouled with no time left on the clock. We received a clutch free throw to send the game into overtime only to lose eventually. Both games were very competitive and exciting.

Basketball Results December 10th

The Girls JV team lost their first game 17-14 to Live Oak. The game was the tale of two halves. We led at halftime 12 to 6, but only scored 2 points in the second half. Live Oak scored with about 20 seconds left on a long three point basket to win the game. We had our chances later but just could not get it done. All of the girls fought hard and should be proud of their overall effort. Their next game will be on December 17th vs Burke @ Burke. Game time is 5 p.m.

Basketball Results December 9th

On Tuesday the Boys JV team split a double header with Live Oak School. In the first game Live Oak won 30-27. This game was a tail of 2 quarters. After the first quarter we trailed Live Oak by the score of 11-10. By halftime the score had ballooned to 25-12 and after 3 quarters the score was 30-12. In the fourth quarter our team showed what they were really made of. They put on a frantic rally cutting the lead to 30-27 with 14 seconds to go in the game. We had two opportunities to tie the game after that but came up short. It could be said that we didn't lose the game we just ran out of time. In the night cap the boys defeated Live Oak's B team by the score of 16-8. That brings their record to 3-1 on the season. Great Start!

On Tuesday the Junior Varsity Boys extended their record to 2-0 with a 19-12 victory over Lycee at St. Mary's Gym. This was a complete game. All players contributed and gave the crowd a lot to cheer about. In the second game The Girls Junior Varsity made a successful debut with a convincing 34-1 victory of Lycee. They played very hard and showed great promise. They will playing again on Wednesday December 10th at 3:45 at Live Oak.

Tuesday December 9th will be the last day for the P.E. Elective before Winter Break. Beginning Friday December 12th, The Holiday Art Units will begin. When we return to school following the break on January 5th we will resume our normal schedule.

On Monday December 1st, Synergy Basketball opened their season with two victories. The Boys JV Team defeated Kitridge School by the score of 22-8 and the Girls Varsity won the nightcap game over Kitridge's Varsity Girls by the Score of 34-6. Both teams displayed remarkable skill and team development in their games, which is unusual for this early in the season. The next game for the JV Boys is Monday December 8th at St. Mary's Gym at 4 p.m. vs Lycee. The next game for the Girls Varsity is Monday December 15th at St. Mary's vs KIPP Academy at 4 p.m. Congratulations to both teams on a successful debut.

P. E. Elective Update

It looks like we will no longer be able to offer Swimming as a P.E. Elective option. This week we were informed by staff at Garfield Pool that they are no longer open from 1:00 to 3:00 on Tuesdays. They are now closed on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 3:30 which is the times that falls within our elective time. They have moved the day for schools to Mondays which does not work for us. We will be looking at alternative options to replace this activity.

The P.E. elective which runs up until November 25th and will be on the following days: October 14, 17th and November 4th, 11th, 14th, 18th, 21st and 25th. The elective will consist of Swimming, Team Sports and Bowling. Swimming will take place only on Tuesdays. Bowling will take place on November 14th and November 21st.

For Bowling we require each student to bring $5.00 on the days this activity is scheduled. The Bowling will take place at Yerba Buena Bowl at the Yerba Buena Center. We will be leaving school at approximately 1:00 p.m. and returning by 3:00 p.m. Swimming will take place at Garfield Swimming Pool.

Students must come prepared on Swim days with a towel, swimwear and a lock if they would like to lock up their clothing and belongings. (recommended) If students do not participate it is a broken agreement.

This week everything is back to normal. Everyone will have their normal P.E. Schedule with the exception of the Eight graders who did not have class due to no school on the 13th. Thursday we will be Team Sports. We will begin class as usual with exercises and will begin the team activity afterwards.. We will be playing run and scope. We will possibly play one other game if time permits. We are still awaiting an order of volleyballs so that we can include this sport on the days when we do team sports.

Physical Education

The first semester will consist of physical pre tests along with sports and games. Students will be tested on their current abilities in agility speed and strength. This will be used as a basis to chart their progress for the school year. At the end of each semester, students will be graded on their individual personal skill development. In addition, during the first semester students will be graded on their participation level, teamwork and sportsmanship in team oriented activities. A constant throughout the year will be exercises and drills that will assist students with improving their agility, strength and overall performance.
